Pak links Mumbai raid to Samjhauta blasts

Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi hints that a border train bombing in 2007 and last year's Mumbai attacks are closely linked.

Qureshi told reporters in Multan that the Samjhauta Express incident near the Indian town of Panipat in 2007 and the Mumbai terror attacks were interconnected, the Dawn daily reported on Monday.

More than 60 people were killed in Feb. 2007 after a series of explosions on a passenger train, which was traveling from the Indian capital Delhi to neighboring Pakistan.

Many of the victims were Pakistanis but some of them were Indian military personnel.

The Samjhauta (compromise) Express is a twice-weekly train that runs from Delhi and Attari in India to Wagah and Lahore in Pakistan.

Reacting to the report, India's foreign minister said that Islamabad was trying to rake up 'old' issues but said India would examine any information on the Mumbai case.

"Therefore, if somebody tries to bring certain issues which are old, it may have some relevance, they may have some information and whichever information they have shared with us, we will examine that and take corrective action," Pranab Mukherjee said in New Delhi on Monday.

Earlier, Islamabad admitted that the Mumbai attacks were partly planned in Pakistan and sent a set of 30 questions to India to further the probe.

Relations between New Delhi and Islamabad have been strained since militants killed 179 people in the November attacks on India's financial hub.

More than 60 people were killed in Feb. 2007 on the Samjhauta Express.

India has blamed Pakistan-based militants for the raids alleging that the perpetrators were 'clients and creations' of the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Islamabad, however, has denied any involvement by Pakistani state agencies and is says it is building a case against the Mumbai assailants.
