Gaza Strip responds to Israeli fire

A rocket fired from northern Gaza has hit Israel hours after Tel Aviv struck targets in southern areas of the blockaded strip.

Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip fired a Qassam-type rocket into the south of Israel near kibbutz in Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council on Wednesday morning. No casualties were reported.

The rocket hit Israel hours after an Israeli aircraft struck two targets in the southern Gaza Strip and caused some damage but no casualties.

The Palestinian rocket attack comes as Israel refuses to open crossings into Gaza and to end its crippling blockade of the strip.

Israel brought a three-week war against Gazan population on December 27 to allegedly stop Hamas rocket attacks but later declared a unilateral ceasefire on January 18 after failing to achieve its goals.

The Israeli assault killed 1,330 Palestinians and wounded 5,450 others, a large number of them women and children.

In spite of its ceasefire, Israel has been hitting targets in the Palestinian territory on a regular basis.

Palestinian fighters in Gaza have promised to end rocket attacks into Israel if Tel Aviv stops its military operations against the Palestinians and lifts the blockade on the strip.
