Netanyahu signs deal with Shas

Israeli Shas chairman Eli Yishai will take Israel's Interior Ministry portfolio as Netanyahu has signed a coalition deal with Shas party.
Based on the late Sunday agreement which is the Prime Minister-designate's second coalition deal, Eli Yishai will take the Interior Ministry portfolio and will serve as Netanyahu's deputy, The Jerusalem Post reported.
The deal also guarantees Shas the Construction and Housing, and Religious Services portfolios.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu's Likud party started coalition talks with Labor party of Ehud Barak Monday morning in order to formulate a draft of a coalition agreement ahead of a Tuesday Labor convention that is set to decide the fate of the party.
Last week, Netanyahu initialed an agreement with the ultranationalist Yisrael Beiteinu party of Avigdor Lieberman.
Netanyahu is still seeking to persuade the centrist Kadima party of outgoing Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to join his coalition, but she is demanding a rotation of the premiership.

Israel arrests Palestinian leader

Israeli police have arrested leader of the Palestinian Islamic Movement Sheikh Raed Salah, blaming him for attending an 'illegal' meeting.
On Monday, the police raided the gathering in East Jerusalem [al-Quds]'s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and took Salah and his bodyguard away for interrogation, the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported.
The Salah-led offshoot of the movement later said that the capture "was made as part of the process of strengthening (Jewish control) over Jerusalem."
The meeting was held to appoint a committee dealing with the cultural affairs aimed at declaring the city "the capital of Arabic culture for 2009". Tel Aviv has taken strict measures to bar the Palestinian Culture Festival which marks the designations.
Twenty Palestinians including Hatem Abdel Qader, a senior official with the Palestinian Authority, have been arrested during police' suppression of the celebration. Police has also blocked the roads to the al-Aqsa mosque to prevent Palestinians from entering the compound and has seized banners emblazoned with celebratory slogans.
Alongside vast expanses of the Arab territories, Israel occupied West al-Quds during a six-day war in 1967.

Israeli troops kill Palestinian teenager in WB

Israeli troops have shot and killed a Palestinian teenager in a village in the occupied West Bank and wounded another man. The incident happened on Wednesday after two Palestinians "hurled firebombs at military vehicles" near Halamish, north-west of Ramallah. A military spokeswoman said two military vehicles caught fire when the firebombs hit them. A Palestinian paramedic said 17-year-old Fayez Atta had died of "gunshot wounds and another youth had been taken to an Israeli hospital in a serious condition," Haaretz reported. There were no Israeli casualties in the incident.pales

Arrest campaigns continued Israel arrests 24 Palestinians across west bank

The Hebrew radio has reported on Wenesday morning that the Israeli occupation forces had arrested 24 Palestinian citizens from various areas of the occupied west bank.
The radio added that the arrests took place in Hebron, Ramallah and Tulkarem, claiming that the arrested persons are "wanted" for Israel.

Fatah arrests Hamas, jihad members

Hamas and Islamic Jihad say Fatah has started a massive arrest operation against their members in the West Bank, amid reconciliation talks.

Islamic Jihad said on Wednesday that 30 members of the movement were arrested by security forces loyal to Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction in recent days.

The movement accused Fatah of attempting to undermine reconciliation talks between Fatah and Hamas in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

"It is uprising that Authority apparatuses are carrying out these arrests at the time where the Ramallah government claims that it wants the Cairo dialogue to succeed," Abu al-Qassem, an Islamic Jihad senior member said.

The arrest operation was more extensive in Jenin and Tulkarem and the Jihad members were reportedly nabbed at their homes or near mosques.

Hamas also said the Palestinian Authority has arrested 39 members of the movement including the son of a parliamentarian.

According to the movement, the arrests were made in Bethlehem, Ramallah, Qalqiliya, and the Jenin, Tulkarem, and al-Khalil areas.

The arrests were made while Fatah and Hamas resumed their talks in Cairo in a bid to form a national unity government. Hamas demanded on Wednesday that Fatah respect the results of the 2006 parliamentary elections and allow Hamas to choose the next prime minister.

Batesh says no QB cadres in Gaza jails

The prominent political leader in the Islamic Jihad Movement Khaled Al- Batesh has categorically denied Tuesday media reports alleging that the PA government in Gaza arrested fighters from the Movement and beat them up.
Batesh, in this regard, stressed that his movement's relationship with the PA government in Gaza and the Hamas Movement was "very good" and not polluted by any misunderstanding.
Media reports had earlier alleged that the PA police in Gaza rounded up and humiliated 10 fighters from the Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, after they fired rockets on the Israeli colonies surrounding the tiny and besieged Gaza Strip.
But Batesh, who is participating in the inter-Palestinian national dialogue in the Egyptian capital Cairo, explained that what had happened was a simple event between members of the QB and the PA police south of the Strip, which, he added, was solved promptly and without arrests.
The PA interior ministry in the legitimate PA government of Palestinian premier Ismael Haneyya also denied the reports, and described them as "baseless".
In a statement it issued and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC, the ministry stressed the "excellent" coordination between its members and cadres of the QB, underlining that national interests and harmony was the main factor that controls all matters and the internal relationship [with armed wings of the Palestinian resistance factions].
In this regard, the ministry called on media outlets to check their sources of information before they publish "false" reports, pointing out that leaders of the Islamic Jihad are known and could be contacted to clarify any matter regarding their members directly.
The ministry also underscored that it was and would remain the ministry that protects the resistance and the resistance fighters because it was the product of a government of resistance, alluding to the Hamas-led PA government in Gaza, and thus, the ministry added, all attempts to fishing in muddy waters and to mar the ministry's rapport with the various Palestinian resistance factors would fail.

Israel hit by four Qassam rockets

Qassam rockets fired from the Gaza exploded in southern Israeli regions of Eshkol and Sdot Negev.
Palestinian fighters in the blockaded Gaza Strip have launched rockets into Israeli towns, seen as a reprisal for a recent Israeli air strike.
Four Qassam rockets fired from the Gaza Strip on Sunday exploded in the southern Israeli regions of Eshkol and Sdot Negev, but left no injuries or damage as they landed in open areas, Israeli media reported.
The rocket firing came hours after the Israeli Air Force said it had attacked a northern Gaza Strip arms warehouse and two alleged smuggling tunnels suspected of being used by forces loyal to the Islamic Hamas resistance movement.
The Hezbollah Brigades, one of the armed factions in the Gaza Strip, claimed in a statement that it had launched two projectiles in retaliation to Israeli atrocities against Palestinians in the coastal enclave.
On Saturday, Israeli warplanes attacked targets near the Gaza town of Beit Lahiya, which killed a 25-year-old Palestinian identified as Sami Fatuh and injured two others.
Palestinian rocket attacks come in protest to Israel's refusal to lift a paralyzing closure of the impoverished Gaza Strip, which has been in place since June 2007.
The siege that was intended to pressurize Hamas, which controls the Palestinian coastal sliver, has drawn grave warnings from human rights groups and international organizations, demanding an immediate reopening of Gaza crossings and the free flow of humanitarian aid into the densely populated territory.
Israel responds to rocket attacks, which usually cause panic rather than any casualties or damage, by launching air strikes. The attacks continue almost a month after a 23-day offensive on Gaza that killed more than 1,340 Palestinians and left thousands wounded.

Radio: Progress made in effort to set up Israeli gov`t

There is some progress in the deliberations between the Likud Party and parties that might join the Benjamin Netenyahu government, and the parties are by now in fact discussing distribution of portfolios among their candidates, Radio Israel reported Wednesday.
The radio said Yisrael Beiteinu Party demands its extremist candidate Avigdor Lieberman takes up the foreign affairs portfolio and that the justice portfolio remains with Daniel Friedmann.
The party also insists its Knesset member Stas Misezhnikov takes up an economy portfolio.
Meanwhile, Shas religious party wants its leader Eli Yishai to handle the interior portfolio, as well as that the housing and construction and the religious affairs portfolios also go to Shas candidates.
Yahadut Hatorah also wants the housing and construction portfolio and to chair the Knesset financial committee.
The Likud leader was charged to form the next Israeli government while the Kadima Party, which topped the recent elections, refuses to join a Netenyahu lineup.

Jews support Iran’s views on Palestine: anti-Zionist Rabbis

TEHRAN, March 5 (MNA) -- Rabbi Ahron Cohen of the anti-Zionist Jewish group Neturei Karta here on Wednesday said, “We absolutely support the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Supreme Leader’s views on bringing to trial the political and military heads of the usurper regime.

On the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference for Support of Palestine, Cohen put stress on the contradiction between Judaism and Zionism.

Carrying a card featuring “A Jew not a Zionist”, Cohen said that there is a big difference between the Judaism and the Zionist.

“Media play a key role in familiarizing the world with the difference,” Cohen said, adding that Judaism “is a divine religion based on compassionate.”

Absolutely condemning the genocide of civilians, the destruction of their homes, the impaling of infants, the bombing of schools and mosques, the use of phosphorous bombs and other outlawed weapons; and blockade on supplies of food, medicine, fuel, and other essentials of life, Cohen averred, “The Zionists’ actions are crimes and is absolutely apposed to the divine religion”.

He also referred to his friendly talks with President Mahmud Ahmadinejad on the sideline of the conference and said, “We all believe that the Zionism is a clear manifestation of the oppression in the world”.

Praising the Islamic Republic’s efforts on hosting a conference on support for Palestine, Cohen stressed the importance of Iran in establishing peace and security in the region.

He also emphasized Iran’s role in naturalizing the false message that Muslims and the Jews are enemy.

Along with Cohen, other Neturei Karta rabbis from the UK such as Rabbi Elhanan Beck also participated in the two-day conference.

Condemning the censorships in the Western media, he also said that such censorships create obstacles for covering the anti-Zionist news and reflecting the actual facts.

The rabbis also expressed hope for having a Middle East free of war and conflicts in the near future, and prey for peace throughout the world.

“We hope the Zionist regime peacefully gives up its crimes and pray for the peaceful dismantling of the Zionism,” Cohen concluded.

The Fourth International Quds Conference -- the Palestine, the model of resistance, and Gaza, the victim of war crime -- held in Tehran on March 4-5, was attended by a number of Arab League members, the OIC representatives, parliament speakers, MPs, officials, lawyers, and professors from 80 countries, including Italy, Turkey, Indonesia, Gambia, Hungary, Algeria, Tunisia, Kuwait, Sudan, Qatar, and Bahrain as well as Palestine.

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, and Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmud Hashemi Shahrudi as well as numbers of Iranian ministers, MPs, and high-ranking officials also participated in the two-day event.

The first conference on Palestine was held in Tehran in 1988 to commemorate the first anniversary of the Palestinian uprising (Intifada). The second and third conferences were held in 1998.

Fourth International Conference for Support of Palestine, the Model of Resistance, and Ghaza, the Victim of War Crimes

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
you, honoured guests—scholars, thinkers, statesman, and combatants—who have come to the Islamic Republic of Iran to participate in the Fourth Conference for Support of Palestine.
Important and crucial developments have occurred between this and the last meeting held in Tehran during 15-17 Rabi al-Awwal, 1427 H. (April 14-16, 2006). These developments have brightened the future prospects of the issue of Palestine and made clearer our duties concerning this fundamental problem of the Islamic world.
Among these important developments were the amazing military and political defeats inflicted by the Islamic resistance in Lebanon on Israel during the 33-day war in 1427 H. (2006), and the humiliating failure of the Zionist regime in the 22-day long criminal war against the people of Gaza and the legal government of Palestine.
Now this usurper regime—which with its army and weapons backed by the U.S. military and political support flaunted a fearsome and undefeatable facade during the last several decades—has twice been forced to suffer defeat by the forces of resistance fighting with trust in God and the people, rather than reliance on arms and equipment.
Notwithstanding its military exercises, preparations, and far-reaching intelligence outfits, as well as the unsparing support of the United States and some Western governments, along with the collaboration of some hypocrites in the Muslim world, the Zionist regime is faced with incompetence, a steep downfall and dissolution before the powerful wave of Islamic awakening.
On the other hand, the crimes committed by the Zionist criminals during the historic events of Gaza—the genocide of civilians, the destruction of defenceless homes, the impaling of infants, the bombing of schools and mosques, the use of phosphorous bombs and other outlawed weapons; all this following an almost two-year blockade on supplies of food, medicine, fuel and other essentials of life for the people, and numerous other crimes—proved that the savage and criminal instincts of the leaders of the fake Zionist state have not changed in the least since the early decades of the disaster in Palestine. Exactly the same policies and predatory and ruthless motives which created such tragedies as those of Deir Yasin, Sabra and Shatila still rule the dark minds and hearts of the contemporary tyrants. Of course, the magnitude of such atrocities and their disastrous consequences have been amplified by the advances in technology.
By now those who advocated a “pragmatic” approach under the illusion of the invincibility of the Zionist regime, and who succumbed to surrender and compromise with the usurpers, should have realized their mistake, as well as those who entertained hopes of peaceful coexistence with the Zionists, wrongly believing the second and third generation of Zionist politicians to be free from the criminal impulses of the first.
Firstly, the false image of invincibility was shattered by the wave of Islamic awakening and maturing of the erstwhile sapling of Islamic resistance. The signs of the usurper regime’s weakness and despondency have become fully visible. Secondly, the aggressive character of the ringleaders of that regime and their unscrupulousness in committing atrocities remain unchanged since the early decades. They are not averse to committing any atrocity whatsoever and whenever they think they can do it.
Now 60 years have passed since the occupation of Palestine. During this period all material means of power have been in the service of the usurpers, including money, weapons and technology, as well as political and diplomatic initiatives and the giant empire of news media and networks. Yet despite these staggering and far-reaching satanic efforts, the usurpers and their supporters have not only failed to solve the problem of the Zionist regime’s illegitimacy, but it has grown more complicated with time.
The intolerance shown by the Western and Zionist media and pro-Zionist governments toward even the mere posing of any question concerning the Holocaust—which served as an excuse for the usurpation of Palestine—and research on the topic, is one of the signs of this nervousness and uncertainty.
The image of the Zionist regime in world opinion today is much worse than it has ever been during its black history, and more serious questions are being raised concerning the rationale of its creation.
The spontaneous and unprecedented world-wide protests against this regime and in support of the Islamic resistance in Gaza and Lebanon during the 33-day war, which extended from the Far East to Latin America, and demonstrations in 120 countries including Europe and Britain, the breeding ground of this evil tree, reveal the emergence of a world-wide resistance against Zionism that has never been so serious and extensive in the last 60 years. It may be said that the Islamic resistance in Lebanon and Palestine has succeeded in awakening the world’s conscience.
This is a big lesson, for both the Muslim Ummah and its enemies.
It is a lesson for the enemies, who tried to create a fake and counterfeit nation and state by resorting to force and repression, and to convert it in course of time into an undeniable reality, and to make such an unjust imposition something normal for the Islamic world.
It is also a lesson for the Muslim community, especially the proud youth and their alert conscience, so that they may know that any struggle waged for the restoration of usurped rights is never in vain, and that God’s promise is indeed true when He, the Most High, declares (in the Qur’an):
“Those who are fought against are permitted [to fight] because they have been wronged, and Allah is indeed able to help them. —Those who were expelled from their homes unjustly, only because they said, ‘Allah is our Lord.’ Had not Allah repulsed the people from one another, ruin would have befallen the monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques in which Allah’s Name is mentioned greatly. Allah will surely help those who help Him. Indeed Allah is all-strong, all-mighty.” (22:39-40)
He, the Most High, says:
“Indeed Allah does not break His promise.” (3:9)
“Allah shall never break His promise.” (22:47)
“[This is] a promise of Allah: Allah does not break His promise, but most people do not know.” (30:6)
“So do not suppose that Allah will break His promise to His apostles. Indeed Allah is all-mighty, avenger.” (14:47)
And what promise can be more categorical than this promise of God,
“Allah has promised those of you who have faith and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth, just as He made those who were before them successors, and He will surely establish for them their religion which He has approved for them, and that He will surely change their state to security after their fear, while they worship Me, not ascribing any partners to Me. And whoever is ungrateful after that—it is they who are the transgressors.” (24:55)
A big fallacy which has taken control of the minds of some persons concerning the problem of Palestine is that a country named Israel is a 60-year old reality with which one has to reconcile. I do not know why these people do not learn from other realities that are in front of their eyes. Is it not a fact that the countries of the Balkans, Caucasus, and Southwest Asia reclaimed their identity after 80 years of loss, and after being parts of the former Soviet Union? Why cannot Palestine, which is part of the body of the Islamic world, reclaim its Islamic and Arab identity? Why cannot the Palestinian youths, who are among the most astute and resistant of Arab youth, overcome this unjust reality by their will and resolution?
Another big fallacy is to say that negotiation is the only means of deliverance for the Palestinian nation. With whom are these negotiations to be held? With a usurper, misguided and bullying regime which does not believe in anything except force? What have those who have been captivated with this game and delusion achieved?
Firstly, what they obtained from the Zionists in the form of the Palestinian Authority—its humiliating and disgraceful character aside—was at the enormous cost of having to recognize the ownership of the usurper regime over nearly the entire Palestine.
Secondly, even that partial and fake authority was at times trampled underfoot by the Zionists under empty excuses. The siege of Yasser Arafat in his administrative building in Ramallah and numerous forms of humiliation he was made to suffer are not events that can be forgotten.
Thirdly, during Arafat’s days and, especially, after him, they have treated the officials of the autonomous Authority as police-station chiefs whose duty was to prosecute and arrest Palestinian combatants and to keep them under intelligence and police surveillance, thus spreading seeds of enmity among Palestinian groups and prompting them to wage war against one another.
Fourthly, even that puny achievement was the fruit of the struggle of Palestinian combatants and resistance of its proud men and indomitable women. Had the Intifada not occurred, the Zionists would not have given them even this little, despite the successive compromises made by the conventional Palestinian leaders.
Or shall it be negotiations with the United States and Britain, who are guilty of the biggest sin in creating and sustaining this cancerous tumor, and who moreover, are one of the parties to the dispute and not arbiters.
The United States government has never ceased its unconditional support for the Zionist regime and its flagrant crimes, such as those committed during the recent events in Gaza.
Even the new American president, who came to office with the slogan of bringing change in the policies of the Bush Administration, avows unconditional commitment to Israel’s security, which means defending state terrorism, defending injustice and oppression, and defending a 22-day-long massacre of hundreds of Palestinian men, women and children. It is a policy which amounts to the same crooked ways of the Bush administration and nothing else.
Negotiations with bodies associated with the United Nations are another exercise in futility. The United Nations has perhaps confronted few tests such as the problem of Palestine, wherein it has been exposed and earned a bad name. It was a day when the Security Council promptly and officially recognized the occupation of Palestine by acquisitive terrorist groups and played a basic role in the birth and continuation of this historic injustice.
After that, for several decades, it maintained a satisfied silence with regard to the cases of genocide, expulsion of refugees, war crimes and various atrocities committed by that regime. Even when the General Assembly voted branding Zionism as a racist ideology, the Security Council not only did not go along but also maintained practically a diametrically opposite stand. The oppressive world powers, which enjoy permanent membership in the Security Council, use this world body as an instrument. As a result, the Security Council not only does not help the cause of world security, but also rallies to the assistance of these powers whenever they deploy notions such as human rights, democracy and the like as pretexts to further their greed and domination, drawing a curtain of deception and lies over their illegitimate actions.
The deliverance of Palestine cannot be obtained through begging from the United Nations or the dominating powers, and more so from the usurper regime. The sole path of its deliverance is through resistance and fortitude, through the unity of purpose of the Palestinians and the word of God’s oneness (Tawhid), which is the inexhaustible resource for human struggle.
The pillars of this resistance, on one side, are the combatant Palestinian groups and each and every one of the faithful and resistant Palestinians, those who are within that country as well as those who are abroad.
From another side, the pillars are the world's Muslim nations and governments, religious scholars, intellectuals, political figures and academicians. If these two pillars remain firmly in their place, there is no doubt that in every part of the world, awakened consciences, hearts and minds which have not been spoiled by the spells of the news media empire belonging to the global arrogance and Zionism, will rally to the assistance of the victims and those who have been denied their rights, forcing imperialism to confront a storm of thoughts, emotions and actions.
We have seen an example of this truth in recent days during the magnificent resistance of Gaza. The sobs in front of the news cameras of a Western chief of one of the international aid organizations, expressions of sympathy by activists belonging to humanitarian organizations, the large and impassioned public demonstrations in the heart of European capitals and American cities, the bold moves made by the heads of several states in Latin America—all these are signs that the non-Muslim world has not yet been fully subjugated by forces of evil and corruption—called ‘Satan’ in the nomenclature of the Quran—and that the ground is still open for truth to manifest itself.
Yes, the resistance and fortitude of the Palestinian combatants and people, together with all-round support and assistance from all Islamic countries, will break the satanic spell of the usurpation of Palestine. The prodigious energies of the Islamic Ummah can solve the problems of the Islamic world, including the urgent and acute issue of Palestine.
Muslim brothers and sisters throughout the world, my message now is addressed to you as well as to all persons with an alert conscience, irrespective of country and creed. Make an effort, and break the spell of impunity for the Zionist criminals. Bring to trial the political and military heads of the usurper regime who have had a role in bringing about the Gaza tragedy, and mete out to them the punishment laid down by reason and justice.
This is the first step to be taken. The political and military leaders of the usurper regime should be brought to trial. If criminals are punished, the room for criminal acts by those who possess the motives and madness to commit them will be restricted. Impunity for perpetrators of great crimes is itself a cause and incentive for further crimes.
If after the 33-day Lebanon war, the Muslim world community had earnestly demanded the punishment of Zionists leaders responsible for the terrible atrocities committed during this war, had this legitimate demand been made following the massacres of wedding processions in Afghanistan, after the atrocities committed by Blackwater mercenaries in Iraq, and following the Abu Ghuraib scandal and other cases involving U. S. soldiers, we would not have witnessed another Karbalain Gaza.
In these cases, we, Muslim states and nations, have not acted in accordance with our duty as dictated by the laws of justice and reason. Its consequence is what we are witnessing today.
It is a matter of deep regret that some governments and world politicians are totally alien to moral values and judgments of human conscience. They are insensitive to the 22-day long genocide in Gaza in which 1350 people were killed and about 5500 civilians were wounded, many of them children. The murderers and criminals are not only not punished, but are even rewarded. The security of the bloodthirsty regime is considered sanctity to be defended at all cost, and the victims, whether it is a government elected by a decisive popular vote or the people who have elected it to office, are accused and condemned. Such is the judgment of political tribunals totally divorced from ethics and alien to conscience and human virtues. Yet, when these governments encounter public opinion in the form of a deep hatred, instead of noting its obvious cause, they again resort to political maneuvers, thus continuing the vicious circle.
Dear brothers and sisters throughout the Islamic world! Let us learn from experience.
Our great community, with the boon of the Islamic awakening, possesses tremendous power. The key to the solution of many of the problems of the Muslim countries lies in the resoluteness and solidarity of this wonderful galaxy. The qestion of Palestine is the most urgent problem of the Islamic world.
At times some people are heard to say that Palestine is an Arab problem. What does that mean? If it means that there is a stronger feeling of consanguinity among the Arabs, who are willing to offer Palestine a greater service and do more struggle for its sake, that is something desirable and we welcome it. But if it means that the heads of some Arab countries should refuse to pay any heed to the cries of help of the Palestinian people which are addressed to all Muslims, if it means that they may collaborate with the ruthless usurper enemy in such an important case as the tragedy of Gaza while loudly condemning others who cannot remain indifferent to their call of duty to help Gaza—then no proud and conscientious Muslim or Arab will accept it, nor spare the speaker of disapproval and reproach. It is the same as the logic of Akhzam, who used to beat his father and chide others for interfering. After him, his son would assault the grandfather with his fists. The fable is the source of an Arabic proverb. (Which means: My sons have left me covered with blood, a custom that I know was laid down by Akhzam)
Offering a multi-faceted assistance to the people of Palestine and complete support is a joint duty of all Muslims. The governments which criticize the Islamic Republic of Iran and some other Muslim countries for assisting Palestine should come forward to bear the burden of such support so that others are relieved of this Islamic duty. But if they lack the ability and courage to do so, instead of criticism and causing hindrance, they should appreciate the dutiful and courageous steps taken by others.
Respected audience! You who are present at this conference are thinkers and specialists about the problem of Palestine. Today our historical duty is not to repeat the bland statements and torpid theories of the past, but to suggest approaches for liberating Palestine from the oppression of the Zionist regime.
Our proposal is a solution which is in total agreement with democracy and can form a common logical basis. That proposal is that all those who have a legitimate stake in the territory of Palestine, including Muslims, Christians and Jews should choose their own system of government in a general referendum. All Palestinians who have borne for years the ordeals of exile should also participate in this referendum.
The Western world should know that non-acceptance of this solution will imply an absence of commitment to democracy, which it always claims to support. The failure to pass this test will further expose its double standards. Palestine was also the focus of an earlier test, when the West didn’t want to accept the result of elections in the West bank and Gaza which brought the Hamas government into office. Those who accept democracy so long as it results in achieving their aims are war-mongering adventurers. If they talk about peace, it is nothing but lies and deception.
The reconstruction of Gaza is one of the most urgent problems of Palestine. The Hamas government— which was elected by a decisive majority of the Palestinians and whose epical resistance, which saddled the Zionist regime with defeat, is the brightest page in Palestinian history of the last hundred years—should be at the centre of all reconstruction efforts. It will be appropriate for the Egyptian brothers to open the way for aid to move in and allow Muslim countries and nations to carry out their duty in this regard.
In conclusion, I honour the memory of the martyrs of the 22-day war. With their blood they made the Palestinian Gaza a matter of pride for Islam and Arabs. I implore God’s mercy and forgiveness for them. In addition, I invoke His blessings for all the martyrs of Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan and for all martyrs of Islam, as well as for the pure spirit of our magnificent leader, the late Imam Khomeini.
I beseech God, the Most High, to exalt the honour of Islam and Muslims, to bring Muslim nations closer to one another, and bring a daily increasing awakening to the Islamic world.
May Peace and Allah’s mercy and His blessings be upon you.

The Secretary General of the International Conference on Qods and Support for Palestine, Mr. Ali Akbar Mohtashamipour announced that the Presidents of Parliaments of Islamic countries and some other countries, personalities of the Palestinian resistance, were invited to take part in this Conference. He added that so far, the Presidents of Parliaments of 15 countries have accepted this invitation. Parliamentary delegations from 30 countries of the world were also invited to the 4th International Conference in Support of Palestine. Mohtashamipour said, many international organizations including the Arab League, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Movement of Non-Aligned Movement, prominent religious leaders, legal and international, many non-governmental organizations for human rights and Man and the rights of Palestinians were also called to participate in this Conference.
Mr. Mohtashamipour said that the invitations were sent to more than 80 countries around the world to invite 700 international personalities to attend the Conference. As for the role and responsibility of the Majlis of Iran in organizing the 4th International Conference in Support of Palestine, Mr. Mohtashamipour said: "By virtue of a law on the need to support su rights Palestinian people, it is the Majlis of Iran to hold international conferences and symposia for the rights of the Palestinian people. "
"The War of 22 days in Gaza, the military offensive of the Zionist entity against civilians, and the steps of this racist entity for two years of total blockade of this region, led the President of the Islamic Majlis to take the initiative for organizing this international conference to defend the inhabitants of Gaza and condemn war crimes, crimes against humanity and apartheid policies of Israel. "He continued.
The Secretary General of the International Conference to Support Quds and Palestine, then describes the aims of the 4th Conference: "The aim of this conference is to support the popular resistance of the Palestinians as a legitimate and lawful, this world-renowned people. Indeed, the resolutions and international conventions confirm all peoples the right to defend their homeland, and to defend itself against the aggression of enemies. "
Mr. Mohtashamipour said that the prosecution and trial of war criminals of the Zionist entity is another objective of the 4th Conference on Assistance to Palestine: "A confession of most international organizations which are dominated by great powers, the 22-day war in Gaza was a war criminal. It is our human duty to condemn the efforts of the criminal Zionist entity, in the framework of international law. "
Referring to the decision of the eminent jurists and international lawyers to prepare an indictment against the criminal Zionists, Mr. Mohtashamipour said: "It is the responsibility of all countries and all peoples to undertake appropriate measures in this direction. The Majlis of Iran was therefore given the task to reveal the war crimes, genocide and the racist policies of the Zionist entity at this conference. "
The Secretary General of the International Conference on Qods and Support for Palestine said that the collection of evidence and documentation of these crimes, based on complaints from Lebanon and Palestine, is a first step to initiate criminal proceedings with the Iranian judiciary.

West bank`s Palestinians protest Israeli demolition orders

Palestinians are striking to protest Israeli demolition orders of homes in east Jerusalem. Shops and schools were shuttered throughout the West Bank and Arab neighborhoods of east Jerusalem on Saturday after Palestinian officials announced the strike.
Official Hatem Abdul Qader says the strike was called after municipal officials and security forces visited several homes in the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan in east Jerusalem. That spiked fears that the homes would be imminently demolished.
Municipal officials issued orders to demolish 88 illegally built homes in the neighborhood in 2005. They say they are simply imposing the law.
Palestinians say it's difficult to obtain building permits in Arab neighborhoods, forcing them to build illegally.

Twenty-Three Palestinians Martyred

At least 23 Palestinians have been martyred due to Zionist forces' assaults on Palestine's self-ruled regions, last month. According to IRIB correspondent in Gaza, citing Palestine Statistics Center, the Zionist regime's troopers continued their onslaughts on West Bank and Gaza Strip in February, martyring at least 23 Palestinians, including four children and three women.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian martyrs have reached 43 in numbers within the past 1.5 months, following the announcement of the ceasefire by the Zionist regime of Israel.
Throughout the 22-Day Gaza war, which was waged by the Zionist regime in Gaza Strip as of December 27, 2008, more than 1,340 Palestinians were martyred.
Moreover, the Zionist regime's forces have detained 300 Palestinian civilians including dozens of teenagers and four women, last month.

Israel goes low profile to sway Obama on Iran

Israel has formulated a fresh strategy toward Iran after the UN watchdog released its latest report on the country nuclear developments.

After the latest IAEA report on Iran's nuclear program caused a stir in Israeli circles, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi convened a secret meeting.

Addressing the US administration's fresh approach toward Tehran, Barak proposed measures to be taken in order to limit potential US-Iran talks.

US President Barack Obama's pledge to untangle 30 years of enmity toward Iran and engage the country with diplomacy over its long-disputed nuclear case has become a cause for concern in Israel.

"What Israel is trying to do -- in a low-profile way -- is to impact the way the Americans reach the point of dialogue," according to Haaretz.

The Israeli minister expressed hope that potential dialogue between Tehran and Washington will be relatively short-term and without a positive outcome.

Barak had reportedly explained that following the "failure of dialogues" Israel would expect the US to head an international move for immediate and harsher sanctions, this time effectively involving Russia, China and India.

According to Ynet, the Israeli prime minister had ordered a blackout on the details of the meeting.

However, Barak before entering the secret cabinet meeting had said that the IAEA report "demonstrates the need to continue sticking to the Israeli stance, which states that no option should be taken off the table."

The latest report by the IAEA states that Iran has produced a total of some 1,010 kilograms of low enriched uranium (LEU) hexafluoride as of January 31, 2009.

Following the disclosure of the amount of LEU in Iran's possession, the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) issued a report claiming that based on the latest findings of the IAEA the country has reached "nuclear weapons breakout capability."

The ISIS technical analysis of Iran's nuclear program added that the country has in theory stockpiled sufficient low-enriched uranium - between 1,000 to 1,700kg - to produce the 20-25kg of highly enriched uranium necessary for one small bomb.

The ISIS report was followed by media estimations that Iran might -- without the knowledge of UN inspectors -- take a step and reprocess its LEU into weapons-grade highly enriched uranium (HEU).

However, IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming dismissed the possibility of any such move by Iran, explaining that, "No nuclear material could have been removed from the facility without the agency's knowledge since the facility is subject to video surveillance and the nuclear material has been kept under seal."

The policies discussed during the secret meeting on Iran came following meetings with US senators John Kerry and Joe Lieberman.

According to Haaretz, during their recent visit Kerry and Lieberman, held major discussions on Iran with top Israeli military officials.

Earlier on February 16, an annual defense work plan presented to Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenazi for the year 2009 described Iran as "the No.1 threat the IDF is now preparing for."

The report tasked the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) with reinforcing its strategic aerial capabilities, while zooming in on the development of "remote-piloted vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles", as well as "infrastructural investments in intelligence and communications devices."

The report came in support of long-standing talks running hot and cold about an Israeli military strike on Iran.

Israel, the sole possessor of a nuclear arsenal in the Middle East, has long claimed that Iran, the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) signatory, will have enough fissile material to become a nuclear power by the end of 2009.

Under the allegation, Israeli officials argue that a military attack is a legitimate option for taking out Iran's nuclear infrastructure. View

Israel to destroy Arab houses in al-Quds

Israel has issued a warning for hundreds of Palestinians to evacuate east Jerusalem (al-Quds) before demolishing their homes in the area.
"The owners of 80 houses in the al-Bustan neighborhood have received eviction notices saying that the structures will be destroyed because they are illegal," said Hatem Abdel Kader, an official responsible for the city's affairs in the Palestinian government.
Kader told AFP that "The (Jerusalem) municipality used this as a pretext to issue the demolition orders despite appeals by the residents."
He said that several of the houses served with demolition orders were built before 1967, when Israel captured east al-Quds during the Six Day War but that numerous extensions have been built since.
"The reason (for the notices) is not legal, but political," he said. "Israel wants to create a demographic disequilibrium in the city."
This is while a Palestinian resident said he received a demolition notice after failing to get a building permit from the Israeli authorities.
"I built my house a year and a half ago," he said. "I asked for a permit but never received authorization."
Israeli authorities have reportedly demolished some 350 houses in the neighborhood since 2004 under the same pretext

Hezbollah 'not behind attack on Israel'

Hezbollah has ruled out any involvement in recent rocket attack on northern Israel that was responded by Israeli artillery shells.

"Hezbollah has nothing to do with this attack," a spokesman for the movement, Ibrahim Mussawi, told AFP on Saturday.

A Katyusha rocket fired from Lebanon struck Galilee in northern Israel earlier Saturday.

According to an unnamed security source in Beirut, two rockets had been fired from the area of Mansouri, one of which landed in the village of Naqoura in southern Lebanon.

"One of these rockets landed (within Lebanese territory). The other rocket's location has not been determined," said the source.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The Israeli army responded to the attacks by firing at least six artillery shells into southern Lebanon.

Tel Aviv held the Lebanese government responsible for the incident.

"It is the responsibility of the Lebanese government and the army to prevent this rocket fire," said an army spokesperson.

Lebanese government meanwhile condemned the attack on northern Israel, saying Beirut was committed to implementing UN Security Council resolution 1701 which ended the 33-day Israeli war against Lebanon in summer 2006.

"Prime Minister (Fouad) Siniora (said) the rockets launched from the south threaten security and stability in this region and are a violation of resolution 1701, and these issues are rejected, condemned and denounced ... Israeli artillery (fire is an) inexcusable violation of Lebanese sovereignty," Reuters quoted a statement from the premier's office.

He also condemned Israel's artillery fire on southern Lebanon, saying the attack threatened the area's stability.

Israel WMD use in Gaza alarms NAM

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has condemned the use of "chemical weapons" by Israel in its recent operations against the Gaza Strip.

The NAM condemnation came after Tel Aviv was charged with the use of the controversial white phosphorous -- also known by the military as WP or Willie Pete -- shells during its recent three-week-war on the Gaza Strip.

White phosphorus, classified as a chemical weapon by US intelligence, is used in munitions, to mark enemy targets and to produce smoke for concealing troop movement. It can also be used as an incendiary device to firebomb enemy positions.

If particles of ignited white phosphorus land on a person's skin, they burn right through flesh to the bone. Toxic phosphoric acid can also be released into wounds, risking phosphorus poisoning.

Exposure to white phosphorus smoke in the air can also cause liver, kidney, heart, lung and bone damage and can even lead to death.

In a statement issued on Thursday at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, the 114-member group called on the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) "to do its duty in this regard" and to help the Gazan victims of the Israeli aggression.

Addressing the conference, Geneva-based Iranian diplomat Ali-Reza Moayyeri urged the global community and the OPCW to launch an investigation into the use of illegal weapons by Israel in Gaza.

He further called on international organizations to step up pressure on Israel to halt its "weapons of mass destruction program".

International organizations and human rights groups continue to voice concern over Tel Aviv's use of forbidden arms, such as depleted uranium and white phosphorus, in the war on Gaza which has resulted in the deaths of at least 1,330 Palestinians and the injury of thousands of others.

Erdogan: Olmert remarks not trustable

Turkish Prime Minister says Israeli Premier's recent remarks about the Gaza war are inconsistent and create distrust among leaders.

At a joint press conference with his Croatian counterpart, Ivo Sanader, on Wednesday, Erdogan responded to his Israeli counterpart, Ehud Olmert, in an ongoing row over Israel's 23-day offensive against Gaza last month, saying he questioned the Israeli leader's trustworthiness.

"The comments made by Olmert are inconsistent. Which part of his remarks will you believe in," Erdogan told the joint press conference when asked about recent statement of the Israeli prime minister, according to Press TV correspondent in Turkey, Mehdi Gholizadeh.

In a Sunday speech, Olmert spoke of Erdogan's criticism that the Israeli leader did not tell his Turkish counterpart of a planned attack on Gaza during Olmert's visit to Ankara a few days before the offensive.

Olmert said he had not told Erdogan about the Gaza operation because he did not know that he would order an offensive in a few days, and because he could not be expected to inform any prime minister about Israel's military plans.

"One is that on Monday, I didn't know that we would attack on Saturday. How could I know? On Tuesday, Wednesday, they were shooting 50, 70 rockets and missiles a day against all our cities in the south, and we just decided that enough is enough and we have to respond," he said.

"But I also said, quite frankly, I didn't call the president of the United States, my good friend, George W. Bush, at that time, and say to him, 'I'm going to attack Gaza.' I didn't call my good friend, Gordon Brown or Nicolas Sarkozy or Angela Merkel."

"Why should I say to any prime minister what the military plans of the State of Israel are for defending its citizens? I don't think that it was the right thing to do. I don't think that I had to do it and I was quite unhappy with the feelings that were expressed by the Turkish prime minister," he told Sunday's conference.

Erdogan told the press conference that "First you will want a country to act as mediator. Then you come to this country and discuss the fifth round (of indirect talks between Israel and Syria). More interestingly, you say you did not know about it (the timing of the Gaza offensive) initially. Then you say 'why should I inform about it.'"

"These (statements) create distrust regarding the future. Leaders cannot create sense of distrust. Politics is not an institution that produces distrust," Hurriyet Daily News quoted Erdogan as saying.

Erdogan who has severely criticized Israel over its assault on Gaza says Israel should be barred from the UN.

Last month, Erdogan engaged in a public spat with Israel's President Shimon Peres during a meeting of the World Economic Forum over the Israeli massacre in the Gaza Strip.

Erdogan told Peres in the Forum that "When it comes to killing, you know very well how to kill." He also added that “I know very well how you hit and killed children on beaches."

He stormed out of the forum in Davos, Switzerland after a heated debate with Peres on Gaza complaining that his comments on the conflict were cut short by the Washington Post's moderator David Ignatius.

Israeli tanks enter Gaza City

Israeli tanks backed by helicopters have crossed the border with the Gaza Strip, triggering clashes in Gaza City.

Witnesses told AFP that the military forces entered Gaza City early Thursday with Palestinian fighters exchanging fire with them.

The military forces however left the strip after the fighters fired antitank rockets at them.

No casualties have been reported in the attack.

There was no comment by the Israeli military on the incident.
