Radio: Progress made in effort to set up Israeli gov`t
There is some progress in the deliberations between the Likud Party and parties that might join the Benjamin Netenyahu government, and the parties are by now in fact discussing distribution of portfolios among their candidates, Radio Israel reported Wednesday.
The radio said Yisrael Beiteinu Party demands its extremist candidate Avigdor Lieberman takes up the foreign affairs portfolio and that the justice portfolio remains with Daniel Friedmann.
The party also insists its Knesset member Stas Misezhnikov takes up an economy portfolio.
Meanwhile, Shas religious party wants its leader Eli Yishai to handle the interior portfolio, as well as that the housing and construction and the religious affairs portfolios also go to Shas candidates.
Yahadut Hatorah also wants the housing and construction portfolio and to chair the Knesset financial committee.
The Likud leader was charged to form the next Israeli government while the Kadima Party, which topped the recent elections, refuses to join a Netenyahu lineup.
